I cannot buy current iMac because I then have to upgrade to PT12 and I'm not ready to do so.

I do audio post production and the current machine works fine but I'm getting busier and want to upgrade it to more powerful one + 27" screen. And the best thing is, when I'm working or otherwise not gaming which is most of the time, it's a perfectly useful, silent and beautiful 1600€-or-so Facebook/Twitter/iWork machine, so hooray for excess.I'm currently running PT11HD (standalone software) on late 2012 21,5" iMac with 16gb of RAM, 512Mb of video, 1Tb fusion drive and 3.1Ghz i7. I do however love that most of the time, especially for the better ports, I can run these games without the fans ever coming on, which is great. YMMV though as I am not a framerate/stat/spec nut. Of course, you may not always have the latest and greatest games (booo companies and publishers), but it's very enjoyable anyway. I'm extremely satisfied, apart from considering getting a console for GTA V. Right now I'm stabbing away at Skyrim with great graphics and zero problems, but haven't been able to get GTA IV to work above unplayable 10-ish FPS and graphical errors for months after buying the computer until finally giving up on the game. Unofficial ports (WINE wrappers) are extremely hit-and-miss however. Borderlands 2, Grid 1 & amp amp 2, Dirt 2 & amp amp 3, Driver San Francisco, Wasteland 2, Hitman Absolution, Insurgency, Call of Duty MW3, GTA3-era games (3, VC & amp amp SA), Mafia 2, Valve's Source engine games, Kerbal Space Program, Total Annihilation, friggin Goat Simulator - they're all the bee's knees (for credibility, have done 'em all on this very machine). Most official ports (that are actually sold as Mac versions on Steam or whatever) run flawless, 30/60 FPS at maximum (or sensibly high) settings.

It runs nice, but it all depends on the port. Basically, the top of the line iMac before the 5K model came along, apart from the RAM which is upgradable anyway. I've got a 2013 27" iMac with the 3.5GHz i7 CPU upgrade and 4GB GTX 780M GPU upgrade, 8GB of RAM (will upgrade to 16GB or 32GB soon though) and 1TB Fusion Drive.
